Transportation Network

Businesses in the Southwest Michigan Corridor are right in the center of everything!

One of the great business advantages of locating in southwest Michigan is the ability to link quickly and efficiently with all major points in the Midwest region, the United States, and virtually anywhere on the globe - by land, air, rail or sea.

This integrated transportation network of highways, airports, railways, and a commercial deepwater port provides connections within a 600-mile delivery radius reaching 13 states and 100 million U.S. customers (over 36 percent of the U.S. population).

Highways: Crisscrossed and intersected by U.S. 12, U.S. 31, M-60, M-51, and M-140, making your connection to Interstate 80/90 and I-94 quick and easy.

Passenger Air:  For commercial travel you are as close as five miles to the South Bend Regional Airport (an easy-in and easy-out airport connecting with O'Hare International Airport) and for private air travel the Jerry Tyler Airport is conveniently located adjacent to the Niles Industrial Park.  Southwest Michigan Regional Airport in Benton Harbor is also conveniently located in Berrien County.  All of these airports provide easy access to business centers, tourist attractions, the Southwest Michigan Wine Trail, beaches, marinas, and a number of golf courses including a signature Jack Nicklaus course.

Air Freight:  Your freight can easily get to the FedEx and UPS dedicated terminals at the South Bend Regional Airport.

Rail Freight:  Norfolk Southern facilities are located throughout the area - several local facilities have access to dedicated rail sidings.

Passenger Rail:  Catch the Blue Star or Wolverine Lines at the beautifully restored and historic Amtrak station located in the City of Niles.  These passenger trains with daily service to Detroit or Chicago can also be boarded in southwest Michigan at Dowagiac or New Buffalo.  Amtrak's Pere-Marquette can be boarded in St. Joseph with service to Chicago or Grand Rapids.  The South Shore Line also offers commuter service to Chicago with a station conveniently located at the South Bend Regional Airport.

Great Lakes Port:  The deepwater Port of St. Joseph provides access to 90 percent of the world's merchant fleet on both domestic and international sea carriers; rail-served by the Chessie System.
