Investors may contribute to Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance in two ways; either through the Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance (SMEGA) or the Greater Niles Economic Development Full Employment Corporation (GNED).
SMEGA is a 501(c)(4) organization. Contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations generally are not deductible as charitable donations, but they may be deductible as a business expense.
GNED is a 501(c)(3) organization. Individuals giving to 501(c)(3) organizations that are private foundations may generally deduct contributions representing up to 30% of their adjusted gross income. Corporations may deduct all contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations (regardless of foundation status) up to an amount normally equal to 10% of their taxable income.
